    1. Please visit our blog to see this review and others at twogalsandabookI'd honestly give this book more than five stars if I could. It's a beautiful and somewhat tear-jerking Christmas story for children. An older man and his wife have many special Christmas traditions throughout the years, until something changes. Is all hope lost? Read along in the story to discover a message of assurance. This book is undoubtedly one to keep!

    13. I loved this one! But, I do have a confession to make; I tend to love the books where a struggling person finds hope when they don't think that they ever will again. And that is this story-- a lonely widower and a lonely horse coming together at Christmastime.Beautifully illustrated.

He just got really depressed after the death of his wife but that all changed soon. Not long away a wild mare was lost in the snow storm and was getting really tired and worried. Then the old man see's her and leads her into the barn. Then he falls asleep in the hay and when he wakes there's a black foal (a baby horse) at the mare [...]

    17. What a beautiful and unusual Christmas book! An old man has lost his wife in the past year and is depressed, seeing no reason to celebrate Christmas this year. A wild horse collapses near his barn on a snowy night--she's in danger of freezing to death under a snow drift. But the man finds her and rescues her, bringing her into his barn just in time for her to give birth to a colt and rebirth to his hope. Absolutely gorgeous illustrations complete this perfect tale.

    18. I volunteer once a week at my son's school, shelving and straightening books (usually) in the young readers area. I'm probably the world's worst volunteer, however, because I spend as much time reading titles that look interesting as I do shelving them. This book was one of those.I won't spoil it for you, but this sweet, sweet story just made me cry. The wonderful unexpectedness of it -- even for someone like me -- took my breath away.Love, love, love it.

    19. Wow, I loved this one! This is such a PRETTY book, with all the snow and a few pictures with my all time favorite bird of all time, the CARDINAL!!! And it has a horse who gets lost. But the old man finds the horse lying down in the snowstorm and brings her into the barn and then guess what? She has a baby!! So it's a good thing for everyone that he decided to look outside when he heard a weird noise instead of hiding like some people would.

    20. I really need a moment. I just finished reading this compassionate story and I need a moment to recover. It unfolds like a small movie laying out the old man and his situation, the horse lost, the suspense of the storm and the potential danger for the horseeach page is a what happens next. The conclusion is completely satisfying. Just lovely.
